Comments: | I just wanted to say that since I was here last and made a beaultiful sling using your easy instructions, I have been asked by a couple dozen people about my sling. They are popular but not too common and everybody wants one. I send them to your website or SlingRings and the link. What a conversation peice and I am so happy that I have it. I have a 2.5 y o and a 4.5 mo old who is very content to sit in the sling. It makes it easier to handle both of them. Thank you, thank you for your servie to moms everywhere! Sewers and those who don't alike.
Karli P.S. Even though you don't recomend it, I used a calico and lined in with flannel to increase it's strength and figured since I live in Alaska I needed all the coziness I could get! |

Comments: | I feel very lucky to have stumbled upon this site. Thanks for providing the information and the inspiration I need in order to make these wonderful things. I'm not naturally the artsy type, but with the help of this site I think I can do some of these projects with success. I haven't used a sewing machine since high school (which has been a couple of years) so we'll see how it goes.

Comments: | My biggest grammar pet peeves?
First, irregardless ISN'T a word! It should NEVER be used, and doing so just shows your lack of education. This is one word that should not become standard. The intended meaning is the same as regardless. The prefix "ir" means not and the suffix "less" means without. Therefore, irregardless is a double negative - and we all know we aren't supposed to use those! Second, affect vs. effect. Affect is a verb meaning to influence. It is fine, but uncommon, to use affect as a noun meaning an emotion or feeling (usually used by psychologists and psychiatrists). Effect is a noun meaning result, or very rarely a verb meaning to produce as an effect. So most of the time affect with an a is a verb and effect with an e is a noun. That's all for now. |

Comments: | I appreciate your website and your patterns that I can use with out having to pay for. I am on a tight leash and 4 weeks to go until I deliver, and that darn nesting instinct is telling me I need a sling, and some cloth diaper covers. I have the material for the sling, just need rings, and I have the cloth diapers, but nothing but plastic bags (yet) to cover my new girls bumm with so she doesn't get me all wet when she's all wet. LOL. So, I am venturing into the wonderful world of domestic goddess-ship and can't wait for the ride ahead. Thanks for having this available for those of us newbies.

We went looking around for slings and patterns. Just by luck I was able to find you on the web. Great ideas!!! I like your organization and that you are willing to share. I was wondering if you have any other ideas. You wrote about nursing pads? I didn't see anything like that...Did I miss something? Well if you would please email me back and share your thoughts. I would be even more grateful. Thank you again for sharing. Looking forward to hearing from you. Kimberli |

Comments: | I used your suggestions for the baby buggy cover and it turned out great. Thanks for your help! I made the basic 45X45 inch w/rounded corners and elastic. I also added toy loops a front pocket for keys, and a seatbelt I got really creative with the seat belt and this may work for others as well.I bought 2 cheap thin large size dog collars with the plastic click latches, exactly what the store has on their buggies. I cut them so that one side is always the same length and the other side is adjustable. I stitched them in place about 10 inches from the bottom of the leg holes. To attach it to the buggy I used a small size collar with the same kids of buckle and stiched it to the back matching up with the other side. I used a box and then diagnally through them for extra support. It is perfect. My baby does not have to use the nasty ones in the store buggies. Everything about the cover is quick and adjustable and it has worked with every buggy so far, and the baby is latched directly to the buggy so he cannot climb out. |

Comments: | Well, I have browsed and browsed and printed and oo'd and Ah'd and browsed and printed some more, and I have come to the quite clear conclusion that you are a genius. ;) I mean, girl, you are the baby/mommy/toddler sewing guru. Your ideas are quite simple, practical and doable. Thank you so very much for having such a wonderful website and offering so much useful and creative (and frugal!) information to offer. I am a granny of two little boys and a little girl on the way. I have made bookoodles of cloth diapers (prefolds... love 'em!) but my daughter wants us to try our hands at making the all-in-ones. I am looking forward to it. |

Comments: | Dear Jan,
A grammtical error on your webpage, about grammatical errors, has me chuckling. A Rule of the Trio - to, too & two - has been broken: The error is in the Grammar Pet Peeve Section, Example #2: "If it's not to much to ask, I'd like you to sign my guestbook." The text, after correction, should read: If it's not TOO much to ask... I thought you want to edit the text. Thank you, Elaine I'd consider that more of a typo, since I definitely know the difference between "too" and "to", but thank you for pointing that out. (And I'll overlook the "grammtical" typo in your entry as well ;) |

At first I was annoyed because I got a nice sewing machine (finally) right after I had a baby, but it ended up working out perfectly because I couldn't afford a baby sling and made one myself. I still don't sew too often, but I just made another for a single mom with a preemie! Comments: | I feel like a friend of yours since I have frequently read as much as I can on your site. Your philosophy of nature and childrearing validates what I struggle to do (or struggle to explain what I want to do) with my own children, Evan 11 yrs and dylan 1 month. I am 34 and from Eau Claire, Wisconsin originally but living here in conservative religious mecca, Colorado Springs, Colorado. There are liberals here too, I have been told. I made the pouch carrier from directions on your site or a link I found here. It looks good since I am a decent seamstress but the baby and I are still figuring out how to work it together. I just wanted to thank you really for putting all this information out there for people like me to feel we are not alone. |

Comments: | First I want to thank you for your wonderful website. My daughter is almost 9 months old and when she was 2 1/2 months I herniated my back. I got an infantino sling as a gift but my daughter hated it and it just put more pressure on my back. I've been wanting to get another sling but just couldn't afford it. I was blessed to have a physical therapist who just so happened to be a member in a nino group and that's where I found out about the link that brought me to you. I feel much more optomistic now. I just might be able to do it. Thanks again. |

In looking around at the great ideas you have to offer, I tried to enlarge the bed photo on the "Toddler bed sheets that stay tucked in" and couldn't get the photo to enlarge. Comments: | I was reading about the nursing bra you came up with. as a Mom
who works I thought it was a great idea. My first day back at work I was sitting in the lunch room trying to pump with my double pump having to hold both pumps with my hands and inevitable losing suction at times and leaking milk. I wish I had seen your bra then. instead I took my belly wrap the elastic thing you wear in the hospital that holds the baby monitor in place and just cut to slits in that and it works pretty good. it goes over my nursing bras. however it is starting to break down you cant sew the edges because then it would restrict it. I think it will last for Ben but not for my future little ones. oh and about that driving while pumping thing. I do it to. you just have to hookup before you start the car and if I'm done halfway to work I just turn the pump off and wait to unhook untill I'm there. I have an hour commute so its a great time to pump. And with my job the only other time I can pump is during lunch.By then I'm so full I hurt. thats My little tidbit. |

Comments: | Over the past few years I keep coming back to your site. More than anything else you have continually inspired me to give DIY a shot! I wanted to make a circular pillow for my 6 month old daughter to sit in and looked at your site first. I used your directions for the custom-sized nursing pillow to make a round pillow for her! I even used stuff materials I found in my house to make it, so it was free!
Thank you so much for this great site! |

Comments: | Thank you for your sleepsack pattern. I knew I could make one myself and your pattern helped immensely. Just one note on how to do it even more cheaply: I needed a spring/summer weight sleepsack for my one year old so I used some of those large blankets the hospital uses for swaddling the baby. They are very sturdy by nature, as they are washed a ton, and they were free. So with the purchase of a zipper, the whole thing cost me $1.75! What can I say-- I'm frugal to a fault. Thanks for helping me maintain my illness :-) |

Comments: | I was actually looking for belly bands and I stumbled upon "the sling" I love it. I am 7 months pregnant with number 2. I have a little girl 3 yrs. and I am having a little boy. I am so excited now I don't need one of those horrible double strollers, thank-you. I have made slings for all of my girlfriends, none of them sew, and they all love them. I can't wait to wear my baby boy. I'm making the chair sling next.
Thanks again Kelli |

Comments: | Thanks for all the great baby carrier pattern links. I also checked out the maternity pattern adjustments and wanted to share the technique we used when I was pregnant. (my mom does most of the sewing.) My mom made a couple dresses for me, including one to wear in my sister's wedding (when I was 7 months along) by taking a regular dress pattern with an empire waist and a full skirt and adding triangle shaped wedges from the bodice to increase the volume of the skirt. Since it was an empire waist, the extra volume gave plenty of room for my growing belly. |

Comments: | making political statements using baby goods- evil
and your husband nas a chain maille website hypocracy at it's best!! Huh? No, really, huh? The baby crafts section is... it's free. I mean, it's meant to help people, which is what I like to do. That's not a political statement, except that it ties in with my belief that many ideas should be free. My politics are just... my politics. They're not on the same page as the baby crafts, and no one is forced to read them. You, however, would benefit from my grammar page, which would tell you the correct way to use "it's". Also, I'm unsure of why my husband's chain maille page is the least bit hypocritical. He's not going out and hacking at people with swords. He just enjoyed, for a time, making chain maille in his spare time, the way many people enjoy knitting. Just because it once had a defensive function doesn't make maille, in itself, a weapon or an offensive item. I'm just perplexed that you bothered to write this... stuff. I mean, believe what you want to, but this is my webpage, and I'll put what I want on it. I'm not making a political statement with baby goods -- I have free baby crafts, and I have my beliefs. Would you write something like this to an explicitly Christian, or explicitly Republican, site that also had free craft ideas? |

Comments: | Thank you! I made a ring sling in August, so that when we flew to Boston from Austin we didn't have to deal with a stroller--it was wonderful for our not-so-little chunky monkey! (We're from Texas, we get in our truck and drive everywhere, so hoofing it up and down hills in Boston would have been impossible without the sling.) My only regret is not having ordered the rings. Instead, I popped into my local feed store and bought a little tack--heavy-duty brass rings. They are a bit on the heavy side, but in my time-crunch they worked. Thanks again, for the clear instructions. |

Comments: | I have a very unusual question for you. I am in the process of making my 2 year old's "big boy" into a space themed room (he loves the moon!) I have been searching the web for the Playhut Spaceshuttle (which is discontinued, and somehow it brought up a comment you made in a chat room back in 2003 about having one. My unusual question is, if you still have it and if you are no longer using it, would you consider selling it?? I've checked ebay and everywhere else I could think of with no luck, so I figured I might as well ask.
Thanks, Christa Erickson (christaerickson@hotmail.com) |

Comments: | Thank you so much for the wonderful instructions on how to use a hemming foot. One came with my machine (Janome 1600P-DBX) but I never needed to use it for my quilting. Then I needed to make leaders for my GracePro Quilt frame and needed them hemmed on all sides. There are three leaders, each 11 feet long. The instruction guide for my machine "explained" how to use the hemming foot and for hours I tried and got very frustrated. Then I googled "how to use a hemming foot" and got your directions. The illustrations are great. I just finished my practice one and then did one length of a leader and it came out wonderfully - only one 1-inch unsightly error! And it only took a few minutes to learn from your instructions. Thank you so much!! |

I was looking around for a pattern to make a shopping basket cover like my son and his wife have for their daughter 17 month and new son 5 weeks old. After helping on a vist I decied I could just make most of the necessities for the new baby. This couple has little money. And home made by grnadma is always better made wiht love nad care. I made many beautiful things for my granddaughter last year when she was born.
This trip east to meeet my new gradson, I cut pattterns on what worked and what did not. From my daughter in laws sugestions. Thank You for the patterns I can make. Dorothy Werner |
