Comments: | I was looking for some stuff and came across you site and you war $ counter.
That money you are counting is what it costs to give someone else the freedom that you take so liberally. *Sigh* And you, my dear, apparently can't be bothered to read. The war in Iraq has *nothing*, and I repeat, *nothing* to do with our freedom. Hussein was a bad, bad man, but it was never within his power to threaten the US. He wasn't producing, training, or funding religious extremists. He wasn't building weapons of mass destruction. He was a terrible dictator to his own people, but he was nothing to the US. We are there so that Bush Jr. could finish what Bush Sr. started, and so that we can have better access to Iraqi oil. Hussein is dead, but the real threats to American freedom remain: namely, a country and leaders who are more than willing to sacrifice real freedom for what feels like security. What we'll end up with, going down that path, is neither. As for us giving other countries freedom, look again. We've set up another puppet government in Afghanistan (which is what we gave them when we financed the Taliban), and it's looking pretty similar in Iraq. They aren't getting freedom -- they're getting US-picked leaders who will probably get voted out (if voting is allowed) and replaced with another set of dictators in the near future. Just like what happens every time a empire-building nation selects a new government for another people. |

Comments: | Hey! Saw your page through Craftster! Great page! I have my first job as a teacher right now, so I can relate to ALOT of the dilemmas and philosopical questions that you went through. I can`t help but thinking that schools need teachers like you! An educator who has a passion for a subject that she`d like to share with others! In your case, science. Students need that! You learn and grow with how you teach and if you do mistakes, get back up there and learn from it. Every teacher has their way of teaching, noone is alike!. My English professor is the main reason that I wanted to be a teacher in the first place and I really don`t know what would have been of me if she hadn`t been there!
I also have a baby and thank god there`s a person who shares her patterns instead of charging everything ;) I think "sisters" should help eachother out! ;) Happy holidays for you and your family and keep crafting! ;) |

Comments: | I absolutely love your site! I found it while searching for instructions for making my own diaper bag and baby carrier. I made a pouch carrier for my 4 week old son, Hudson, out of a new bed sheet I had lying around. While it's not perfect (I am not a seamstress), it works great and I plan on making one out of fleece. The weather in Kansas right now is very cold and I hope a fleece pouch will keep him toasty.
Thank you for having such an informative site. I have recommended it to everyone I know with little children! |

Comments: | I just wanted to publicly give you a shout-out for your awesome response to that unfunny and ignorant and, frankly, embarrassing-to-even-read (because I can't believe another human being, with whom I share much of my genome, thinks this stuff) article by that Shawna character. One would have hoped that in nine years she might have undergone a little bit of personal growth and realized the errors she'd made but I guess she didn't. Oh well. Anyway, you did a great job rebutting that piece and she sounds like a wack job. |

Comments: | You are a total bitch and really, do you think your life is so interesting you deserve such an obscenely big web page? You called me ignorant several years ago, which just showed how stupid you are. You had (still have?) no sense of humor!!!!!!!!!
I had written a reply including my total bafflement about who the heck you are, but I figured it out -- you used to be Shawna Starkey, and you wrote a spectacularly unfunny "editorial" in The New Hampshire nine years ago. Well, I'll stand by my words. Your editorial wasn't funny. It was just stupid, and yes, ignorant. I don't imagine you'll read here again, so I'll be emailing you at your Barrington Middle School address. Thanks for your time! (Incidentally, I don't feel I "deserve" anything. I get a few dozen emails each month thanking me for the free crafts I have on this page, but the rest is pretty much fluff -- I know that. My life is what it is, and I'll share what I want to share. You, on the other hand, seem to be full of misplaced vitriol, and you have my pity.) |

Comments: | I made my first sling off of your directions over 2 years ago and I loved it. I wanted to make my own design because people kept wanting me to make them one too but I didnt't want to rip off your design! I totally changed the shoulder, found a length that I was happy with and I have been making them for people ever since. I wanted to say thank you for getting me started! If you email me, I'll send you a pic of some of my slings to show you what you got started! ;-) I was looking for a material that I could stick with, and use nothing but. I chose dupioni and was very pleased. But now I'm not so sure it was the right choice. I have had a couple of "it looks like a curtain" comments. This is really bothering me! I wanted to ask you some specific fabric questions. I went through your whole fabric FAQ, but I'm still not sure where I want to go from here! TIA!

I am pleased to find your site.I have been thinking of making a nursing pillow for my friend. She is chronically ill and has medical problems that have affected her left shoulder and arm. She finds it hard to get comfortable when sitting down due to her poor body alignment and the pain which occurs in these affected areas. She also loves to read and I think this will help her be able to hold her book comfortably. Thank you for showing me how to make it. Wish me luck!! I am not much of a seamstress..But it looks simple. I work from home and have been pumping with one hand and typing emails with the other. Holy Moley! Am I so excited to have both my hands back. I just cut a hole in my sports bra and away I go! Thank you thank you SO SO much for posting the directions on your site. My baby is 3 months old and I feel like I NEVER have two hands between holding him (although I do use a ring sling) and pumping during working hours. I feel SO great right now!!!!! As for the freak with driving a car and pumping, ask him if he drinks coffee/smokes/eats in his car while driving. Once you're hooked up to the pump, drinking a cup of coffee is more distracting that pumping. Thank you thank you thank you! |

Comments: | Mrs. Soucy was my Junior English teacher at MRHS as well - back in 1974! I found your site because I was looking for a copy of those O'Rourke rules we so diligently memorized for her class. I homeschool my son, and was finding the grammar lessons we are using to be confusing and a bit tedious. I remembered that old list and how helpful it was to me as a writer. When I saw her name at the top of your Grammar Primer, I just had to find out if it was the same Mrs. Soucy!

But the reason why I took the time today to sign your guestbook is my great appreciation of your grammar page! Viewing the misused apostrophe in print causes me major grief. I even think the error is growing in popularity. Boo! Hiss! I get that no one is perfect... and I'm not denying I might have made a grammatical mistake even in this message. It happens. Comments: | I read your responses to the (to put it nicely) inappropriate comments off your lj and decided to see for myself just what the total cost was up to. It surprised me how fast it rises. It's hard to wrap my mind around that kind of money. My husband is a soldier so talk of the war is a touchy subject in our house. He's paid to not have an opinion on it, because if he has to go he has to go so to speak. So he doesn't want to spend his free time thinking about it. I'd like to think that everyone has a right to think what they want about it and express their thoughts on it. Your website, your free speech. I hear that there are even free places on the internet where people can express their free speech. I'd like to think, if you don't like what I'm saying, be grateful that you live in America where you can have your own opinion. Anyway, I just want to say I agree with you in principle. A few years ago I had a "Attack Iraq? NO!" sticker and everything. But the more people you know who have friends who died over there, you can't tell them their buddies died for nothing. It's too sad. |

Comments: | I liked the site until I scrolled to the bottom and saw the counter for war dollars. It indicates to readers that you think the war is a waste. It's easy to criticize a war effort because that was the course of action the government took. What we forget to ponder is what COULD happen if we were not spending these dollars. It tells the world we are cowards and will not defend ourselves. That warrents future attacks. Then everyone would fuss because Bush did not attack. Like the site...I will not support it's political views. You may want to leave that part off.
Remember this: Iraq had nothing to do with the terrorist attacks. 19/20 of the terrorists on 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia, and the other was from somewhere else (not Iraq). Bin Ladin personally criticized Saddam Hussein as being a bad Muslim -- they had nothing to do with each other. And while Hussein was a bad, bad man, that does not justify the US's preemtive strike on him. That action should have gone through the world body of the UN. I felt that the actions against the Taliban in Afghanistan were justified -- the Taliban, in addition to being bad, bad men, were also involved in 9/11 in allowing Al Qaida to set up training camps. However, the same was never true of Iraq, whose country the US had been bombing since the end of the first gulf war anyway. "We" went in on false pretenses. That war is not justified, and it's not a war we're ever going to win, without the rest of the world behind us. So, you're right. I do think the war in Iraq is a tremendous waste -- of human lives (ours and theirs) and, of less importance, of resources that could be far, far better used elsewhere. This is my website. It's where I share my views. I am happy to share ideas for crafts, but I am also free to express my personal beliefs. No, I will not leave that part off. It's an important part of my life, and if you choose not to visit because of it, that's your issue, not mine. |

Comments: | The cost of war=the price of freedom. I'd rather pay for my children's future now then know they'd not have a safe one to look forward to. I've removed your link after getting what I needed from your patterns. I can not support someone who doesn't support our country, our troops, and our world. God bless you.
I'm sorry you feel that way. Of course, in using my patterns, you're not actually giving me any "support" as such, since I receive no benefit from people downloading stuff from my site... it's actually somewhat the opposite. If you want to use me and then remove my link, that's entirely your perogative. I hope none of your kids die in this war, btw. The current war in Iraq had *nothing* to do with terrorism. If that had been Bush's agenda, he should have invaded Saudi Arabia (where 19 of the 20 hijackers came from), but that wasn't the motive. I'm sorry you can't seem to grasp the difference. And, of course, you're entirely wrong about my not supporting "our world". I am not "my country, right or wrong," but feel that war is not the answer, especially when the provocation isn't from a nation, but a terrorist organization, which cannot (as we have seen in the last 5 years) be stopped in a military operation that targets innocent civilians. Bush is making far more terrorists in his little war than he will ever kill. |

Comments: | Oh, and it seems that the pouch sling cincher is from Hip Melon slings...I stumbled on them earlier today. Hope that's what you were hoping for.
Having looked over her site, I don't think that's the case, alas. She is a newcomer to the business, and the place I saw it was at least 3-4 years ago, and there were pictures of it on the site (none on HipMelon.com). Interesting, though! |

Comments: | Thank you so, so much for your pouch sling pattern. I've just made one from a lycra, swim suit fabric and have threatened to wake DD up to try her in it (DH forbids me to, though I'm wearing it as I type!). I'm so excited to see how she fits. I was planning on buying one online, but I see no reason to spend $40 on one, when I can make 4 for that price!!
Thank you again, and when I get pics of the peanut in it, I'll send them along too! Ooh, and thanks for the dipes/wipes case. I'm going to try that one next! |

Comments: | I just wanted to thank you for your 'no sew sling' instructions. I found it the same day I found information about wraps on www.wearyourbaby.com I combined the two ideas. I now have a 5.5 yard by 25 inch piece of fabric that can act as a wrap, or when doubled over and combined with rings becomes a 'no sew sling'. So easy. |

Comments: | Thank you so much for posting my personal pet grammar peeves! I was beginning to think I was the last living grammar Nazi! However, my aunt (bless her grammatical, professorial soul!) still insists one may not split infinitives (but she is still fluent in Latin, so maybe she's thinking in that language? At 92, one doesn't really like to ask!) I must admit to having skipped over the baby pages, since my baby is now 22. |

Comments: | Thank you so much for this site! I am on a tight budget after the birth of my son, and have had to come up with several innovative ways to get the things I want for him. Mainly taking up sewing! Which for me was a great challenge seeing as how I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the subject! I've been pricing the shopping cart covers, and just couldn't bring myself to pay 30 dollars for one, so I've been looking for patterns! One of my greatest fears has been when he gets old enough to sit up in the cart, and all of the germs he will encounter! Thank you so much! |

Comments: | I did use your podaegi instructions to make one - a double-sided, light demin/light flannel - although I went through a brain burp and couldn't quite get the straps to work out right. (whether I was having a spatial relationship mental block or all the fabric was making me hazy, I don't know.) Instead, I just sewed both sides together. Then I made the entire length of strap (180") and just sewed it to the very top and front of the carrier (it's visible when worn). You are right in indicating wanting a longer length of strap - I disregarded that little note, with a little bit of horror at the end of the project. Of course, I was practicing with a pillow and not a baby (baby's due in 3 months), hopefully the baby will not be as big as the pillow. |

Comments: | I just finished making a baby carrier from instructions I found on your site (links). I LOVE it!!!! I made it by combining the "Man-tai" and "Mae's Mei-tai". Basically I made it cutting out the sizes from the chart on Mae's instructions, then sewed following the man-tai instructions, but including the changeable panel. It looks great. I tried it today with my 5 year old and now I can't wait for the baby to be born so I can put her in it! Thanks for all your great instructions and links. I look forward to making more of your projects. |

Comments: | What a fantastic site. I have been given a sling ring for my baby due in 7 months and my two year old loves being hip carried in it. The colours are not really to my taste but I loved the idea. I found your site when searching for make your own sling ring and its great. I have just ordered fabric so I can make one for day to day use, another to co-ordinate with my outfit for my sisters wedding (when baby will be only 3 months) and enough to make matching breast feeding diaper bags. I also intend to make the fabric baby chair. I would of loved one of those for my other two children. Keep up the good work with the sit. I will be sure to recommend it to others.

Comments: | I was searching for a fitted crib sheet pattern when I came across your site an hour ago..........it's fantastic and I really wish I'd found it 12mths ago, the reason being that back then I was 8mths pregnant and was desperately searching for several of the patterns you have here. Comments: | Great site: thanks for putting so much work into it. I have made ring slings for many of my friends in the last year (there seems to be a baby boom here!), and they have loved them. Recently I made the mei-tei sling on your site for my sister. Her little 11 month old daughter loves it. My sister was really grateful for that carrier recently, as her daughter became a "velcro baby" when she was ill with gastroenteritis. My sister was able to carry her and get stuff done. I recently delivered a little baby myself, and have made a ring sling, pouch and mei-tei from directions on your site. We're trying them all out. I look forward to warmer weather when I will be able to carry him and go hiking on the trails around here. Many thanks again for a great site. Also, thanks for spreading the atheist word in an intelligent, compassionate way. |

I want to add a grammar pet peeve, if you don't mind. Why do people think breastfeeding is a hyphenated word, ie breast-feeding? I can't come up with one explanation for the hyphen. At most I would think that people would make it two words like bottle feeding or force feeding. But the hyphen, where did that come from?

Comments: | Just thought you'd enjoy the following site considering your love of grammar, which I share:
http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail89.html This is a really funny website! If you watch all the way through the short cartoon, you can click on an easter egg that gives you a CD of hilarious grammar songs. Click on the little bicep in the top left corner of the sign, and the CD will appear. Each time you click on the CD, you'll hear a new song. There are 5 or 6, and they cover many of the pet peeves on your site. I sing them all the time to my 8th graders (the world's worst grammar offenders, I'm convinced.) Enjoy! |

Comments: | Dear Jan, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting your site, as I was a real sling addict myself (my girl's to heavy to carry a lot nowadays, and mostly wants to walk by herself too).
I made my first slings from the pattern that was put online by Stacy Steadman (http://www.ida.net/users/stace/sling.html) but when (and if) I have another baby, I'll try some of yours for sure! I thought it so sweet that people (like you, and her f.e.) want to share such delight-giving knowledge. So, I did my best to add some to that, by putting my patterns for babyclothes (my own stuff) online, free to use for all. (It's only just online now) Hope you want to take a look at them some time, or maybe we could exchange links (I'm not quite sure it is your 'topic') warmest greetings Suzanne |

Comments: | I have been reading everything on your site for several days now. You are a totally interesting person with so much knowledge to share with others and such an obviously big heart to be sharing it for free. Before your site, I was considering buying a zolowear silk brocade baby sling. They are about 150 dollars. BUT.. You pretty much inspired me to make my (soon to be born) new baby girl's ring sling on my own and now that I have seen all your other amazing crafts, I will be very busy. LOL Even though you are much younger, you remind me of my mother. (That's a good thing :) She is SO creative. She used to make all my clothes when I was younger and she always tried to teach me these things but I never paid attention. Now, here I am on my 2nd child and I am creating things I would have never dreamed I could. I told my mom about your site and even she has looked you up. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing all your life experience and knowledge. You are an awesome person and your children are so lucky to have you for their mother. :) |
