Thank you so much for the incredible detail that you provide in your instructions for making baby slings. I love wearing my babies, and have always wanted a sling for those times when the front pack just isn't working out. I want to make one myself to cut costs. However, I'm new to sewing, so every bit of advice is ever so helpful. Sewing projects can be kind of overwhelming when there is no one around to answer my questions and offer expert advice, and it's great having a site like yours to use as a reference.

Babywearing has always been appealing to me, but to be honest, I can't really afford to shell out forty to fifty dollars to buy one. I did about 80% of the work, and at the very end, it got to be a little too tough for me, so she helped me to finish the product! I think this was fate. I used to be an English teacher, (and grammar is one of my PASSIONS) but my student teaching experience left MUCH to be desired. I find it terribly sad that your "cooperating teacher" (non cooperating would be more accurate, in my book) seemingly prevented you from entering teaching. However, it's clear that you more than survived.

I am also the proud mother of three. I am breastfeeding my youngest, who is five months old. (I also breastfed my older two, albeit not as long as my youngest...due to returning to work and other issues. But I did it as long as I could. Anyway...) My mother is not and was not supportive of my breastfeeding efforts, and that makes things hard sometimes...but then I read your thoughts, and if gives me strength.

Finally, I am researching slings and I've been poking around your site for too long now.

I am an occupational therapist working with little ones with special needs. I was looking for a way to secure a little guy with significant motor delays so that he could sit upright supported in his little floor seat. I found your tie-on baby seat pattern through an extensive web search and was able to adapt it so that he can sit comfortably and his Mom can get him in and out easily. I fitted the pocket on top so that it fits snugly over the back of his seat, eliminating the ties. I sewed a big piece of Velcro on the upper back and , instead of tying the straps on, I put Velcro on the ends of the strap. This makes it adjustable and easier to get him in and out. I used a denim cotton fabric with some lycra for a bit of stretch. His grandmother wants to make him another one, so I will direct her to your instructions with my adjustments. Thanks you so much from me and from this family who loves seeing their little guy sit up tall and play at his table!

I am originally from NH and someday would love to meet you just to say thank you and have you meet my daughter Jen whom I think is the smartest most beautiful happiest babyever and think babywearing is the biggest reason why.....a process I might add that may not have happened without your design page for DIY. Now, that I have a little extra I bought a miami long and with the use of your page and some help from a friend I made a legacy wrap for Jen. I was wondering if you or anyone contributing to this site might know how to make car seat covers, or car-seat cover replacements (such as for a Britax Decathlon)? They've been popping up allover the internet! I'd really like one for my daughter, but people are charging as much as an entirely new (smaller) car seat would cost! So, long comment short, I'd like to learn to sew one myself... Preferably without taking apart the current car seat cover I have...

I love your site! And as for your "Cost of Iraq" counter, may I say "Thank you very much." I am a proud American with a heritage of veterans in both mine and my husband's families. I only preface this comment because I am so tired of people assuming that only one political party owns all the patriots and veterans. I am a Democrat and tired of the poisonous insinuation that comes from the White House and the conservative right wing media that Democrats are somehow not good American because we don't support this horrible war! I made your pouch sling with the fabric band keeper from a trouser weight weft- stretch cord, with great results. I had bought a sling (in NZ) from Dulce & Zoet but the size recommended was too small. I still loved the idea of baby wearing, so I was pleased to find your excellent and generous instructions. I'm interested in the sustainable baby, basically how not to spend much money and still have everything you need. I'd love to have my own site. I am also the child of two scientists... a rare breed.

also thank you so much for adding your thoughts on iraq - thoughts that i too echo, iraq has been the subject of many tears and prayers in our family we have friends in both iraq and afghanistan, and many of those who have served in iraq are asking the same question - what for what was all the death and destruction for, many in my country were against the war and we detest blair and brown for following bush blindly without knowing why ! well perhaps we do quite sadly.

again many thank in your brave stance i know in the US there is much more blind faith in bushes policies - and as for the comment on fascist governments we both live in one as you well know - n the UK there is no where to turn to speak out and the terrorist laws are being used against ordinary citizens (or subjects that is another debate :) for instance during the labour party conference - an 87 year old life member of the party, heckled tony blair when he mentioned iraq - he was man handled and thrown out after being arrested under the new terrorist laws, which gordon brown is pressing to make more draconian every day.

scary days ahead i think you will agree this is a can of worms that cannot be shut once it was opened.

I have a 6-month-old and I plan on making goodies for her too, but my first effort was the diaper pouches for 2 upcoming baby showers (I didn't want to pay $15 for them at Baby Depot!). Which I just finished making, so thanks a bunch for that.I am a mother of four kids in four years, no twins, I have been pregnant, nursing, nursing and pregnant nonstop for 5 years. No breaks. I am pooped just writing it. My body has slowed down and my milk supply has slowed so I have had to suplement some feedings. I my self have felt sad cause it is out of my control. I made your version of the cart cover. I had to tweek the measurements slightly to fit the Wal-Mart cart, but it was very simple! I have pictures and would LOVE to send them to you. I made mine out of three different pink John Deere fabrics for my baby girl. I lined it with fleece and made it reversible. I love it! Thanks for such an easy pattern!

I agree on all accounts. In Australia we have an even more despicable grammar lapse, written and spoken..."yous" or "youse" (cringe). Some people seem to think this is the correct way to address a group of people, as in "what are youse doing today?". It's all bad I'm afraid :)

Thanks for the wipes case pattern, I have made a bunch of them for myself in all different colors and I also made them as baby shower gifts for my friends and they are a big hit!! I also make a matching burp cloth and changing pad case when I make the gifts so that my friends have a nice set.

I have no wish to make baby slings for a living (I tend to stick to historic costumes and wedding frippery!), but it is great to find someone so willing to share their philosophy, their ideas, and their instructions. I might create a one-off now and again as a prezzy... The delightful Goddaughter is 20, after all!

I do have a baby changing bag pattern I drew up when a friend needed one that was small, neat, and still big enough for what baby needed plus an A4 file and a spare pair of undies... Ever the teacher! ;) Do let me know if you would like a copy.

When I found out last June that I was pregnant with my son, I had never heard of sling carriers, but then in October I saw a woman with her toddler in one, and she pointed me to Mayawrap.com....I found your page from theirs, and the rest is history! I've made two sling carriers, and I'm back for instructions on a ring wrap, my baby is only 3.5 months old and already 16 pounds, too heavy for just one shoulder. Thank you for posting the sling pattern. My daughter is expecting her first child and she has miyaclonic seizures, they are violent twitches. We are hoping that she will be able to hold her baby by using your sling, with out worrying that she will have a seizure and accidently throw the baby.

I just wanted to say thank you for the shopping cart cover pattern. I made it and it was really easy and a lot cheaper to make than those I found on the web. I made toy hooks and a little bag to store mine in. I turned out so cute and lots of people request for me to make them one. Thanks a bunch!

Found your website by searching for water bottle carrier. I am learning to sew a little and adopted your idea for the loop to a water bottle carrier that someone had made for me.

Then I saw the wonderful things on your website. I'll have to come back to get more ideas of things to make. I made a car seat cover for our daughter last year when she was four and she loved it (used Disney Princess pattern).

I am trying to make a cover to go over the toddler carseat, to protect the buckles from the sun. I burnt my hand on one last year, and would like somthing to put over the large carseat that we don't remove from the vehicle. I may try adapting your shopping cart one to fit.

Was searching for a pattern for a grocery cart cover - not for a baby, but because I've been reading too much about all the germs lurking on shopping carts. I just got a sewing machine, and as soon as I learn how to use it, this will be my first project; I've never sewed before.

But it was the grammar that kept my interest: as a former foreign language teacher, I learned English grammar basically through the study of foreign languages. Then I became a grammar nut, an obnoxious one, to boot (I correct far too many people!). English grammar is barely taught in school in the U.S., and it's (apostrophe ess) lamentable.
